Day to PLAY by Family Gateway

A community event that promotes volunteerism, community and helping others is what Day to PLAY prides itself. I am so happy to live in Dallas, because of how this community rises up together to help families in need and especially experiencing homelessness. Homelessness and poverty is something that some families in Dallas go through because of unseen circumstances. Thanks to the amazing people at Family Gateway hoisting Day to PLAY at the AT&T Performing Arts in Dallas families can forget about their situation and just play.

Saturday April 7th was the coldest weekend we've had in Dallas in the month of April. I was determined to make this day extra special for my kids and my friend that joined us for some fun. One of the many things that I really liked was that we were instructed to bring some hygiene products for the families that are staying at the Family Gateway shelters. This was something that anyone can do to personally contribute to the needs of our neighbors in the community. This was a great example to teach kids to look outside of their bubbles and help someone in need.

The event had so many activities and booths all around the Annette Strauss Artist Square, that we couldn't keep up with them all. My kids really enjoyed making lighthouse at the Maestri Studio booth, decorating donuts at Top Pot, playing video games that the Perot Museum booth and more. The lawn was filled with inflatables, like bounce houses, slides, music from DJ S.O.U.L.Jah , live yoga, dancing and more. I know that my kids really had a blast hanging out and making new friends. Despite the weather being so cold everyone had a positive attitude because of course we wanted the event to be fun and successful.

If you are looking for a chance to volunteer your time or just drop off some hygiene products check out the Family Gateway website for more information on how to get involved. We enjoyed our weekend at the event and look forward to helping those in our community.
